Third town founded by the Spanish conquerors, in 1514, and located in the central province of Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad is the most serene, delicate and generous colored picture of the old days of Cuba. The almost unchanged conservation of one of the architectural complexes of exceptional value among the colonial settlements of America turned its historic center into a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a condition similarly conferred by UNESCO in 1988 the Valle de los Ingenios, a great natural and archaeological reserve of the sugar industry of the 19th century, whose production made this city one of the most prosperous in Cuba.
